Felice J. Freyer has been a health care reporter at the Boston Globe since 2014. Her beat currently focuses on addiction, mental health, and brain science. In 2016, she was one of the first reporters to reveal the suffering of pain patients in the wake of the war on opioids. In 2018 and 2019, she produced a series of stories on recovery from opioid addiction, exposing the failures of the treatment system and chronicling the struggles of those who achieved long-term sobriety. Before coming to the Globe, Freyer was for many years the medical writer at the Providence Journal in Rhode Island. She is also an affiliated faculty member at Emerson College and the vice president of the Association of Health Care Journalists.
