Zhe Li, PhD is a faculty of the Genetics Division at the Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Li obtained his PhD degree from Dartmouth College in 2003 under the mentorship of Dr. Nancy Speck, at the Dartmouth Medical School. From 2003-2008, he trained with Dr. Stuart Orkin at Boston Children’s Hospital as a postdoctoral fellow.
Research in Dr. Li’s laboratory focuses on stem cell and cancer. His lab mainly uses mouse models and organoid culture systems to study the developmental oncobiology of several hormone-related cancer types (e.g., breast, prostate, ovarian/fallopian tube cancers). In particular, his lab is interested in elucidating how cells of origin contribute to the cancer phenotype, and what is the molecular and cellular basis leading to the formation of cancer stem cells/tumor-initiating cells from normal target cells of cancer. The long-term goal is to develop novel approaches to prevent and/or treat cancer.
