Third Neurosciences Interdisciplinary Mini-Retreat

The BWH Institute for Neurosciences and the BRI Neurosciences Research Center will hold their third mini-retreat on Thursday, November 19^th from 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm. The purpose of this retreat is to provide a forum for BWH neuroscience investigators to showcase their research, expertise, and interests, and to encourage networking and new collaborations. This retreat is open to all investigators at BWH whose work relates to the nervous system. The afternoon will feature a keynote address by Jim Eberwine, PhD, Elmer Holmes Bobst Professor of Pharmacology at the UPenn School of Medicine, talks by select junior neuroscience investigators and a networking reception/poster session featuring basic, clinical and translational neuroscience projects at BWH.

Awards will be presented to recognize the top two posters in each of the three categories: basic, clinical and translational research. In each category, there will be a first place winner ($1000) and a second place winner ($500). Posters on any topic relating to the neurosciences will be accepted for presentation.

Short talks & Poster session Information

Eligibility criteria for short talks

• Only researchers with a rank of assistant professor, instructor or postdoctoral researcher/clinical fellow are invited to submit an abstract to give a short talk (10-12 mins) at the retreat. Abstracts in any area of basic, clinical or translational research related to the neurosciences welcome.
• Applicants must work in a BWH-affiliated labortatory
• Abstracts that are not selected for talks will by default be included in the poster session
• Successful applicants MUST be available to talk at the retreat on Nov 19^th

Short Talk Abstract Submission deadline: Monday, November 2^nd

Eligibility criteria for poster session

• Researchers with an academic rank of assistant professor or below, including research and clinical fellows, nurses, residents, students, etc. are invited to submit a poster in any area of basic, clinical or translational research related to the neurosciences
• Only one poster per applicant is permitted
• This will be an electronic poster session. Presenters should not print their posters, and instead prepare powerpoint slides, and bring to the event on a flash drive. Guidelines for creating slides can be found online.
• Applicants must work in a BWH-affiliated laboratory.
• Poster submitters will select in which category they wish to be judged: basic, clinical or translational research. Submissions to all categories are equally welcome. Awards will be given based on a combination of pre-event abstract review and live judging of the posters at the event.

• Submitting authors must be in attendance at the poster session to present their poster
• Participation and eligibility will be limited to the first 40 qualified applicants and accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Recognition: Awards of $1000 (1^st prize) and $500 (2^nd prize) respectively will be awarded to the top two posters in each of the three categories. There will be a total of 6 winners. There are no awards for applicants selected to give short talks at the retreat.
